What I love about my work

The most satisfying part of my job is the investigative work clients rarely see. I enjoy combing through tax workpapers, learning the details of a client's situation, and finding opportunities that might otherwise be missed. Sometimes it's a deduction, sometimes it's a tax credit, and sometimes it's simply a better way to approach a problem. What I enjoy most is knowing the effort matters. When we help a client reduce their tax burden legally and thoughtfully, more of their money stays available for what matters most to them. That might mean supporting their family, paying off debt, growing a business, or saving for the future.

How I help clients

Clients should reach out whenever they have a question, even if they're not sure it's a tax question. Some of the best planning opportunities come from conversations that start with, "I don't know if this matters, but..." I enjoy learning about each client's situation and connecting the dots between their goals and the tax opportunities available to them. Whether I'm researching a complex issue or helping someone make sense of a confusing notice, my goal is to provide thoughtful guidance and practical solutions that help clients make informed decisions.

Outside the office

My wife, Elizabeth, and I live in Lake St. Louis, Missouri, with our two children, Billy and Madeline, and our dogs, Magnus and Ranger. When the kids aren't at school, you'll usually find Billy on the basketball court, Madeline singing with the choir, and both of them at a scout meeting or campout. Elizabeth and I spend plenty of time driving them to activities and, when we can, walking the dogs. I also enjoy cooking at home, watching college football, and playing video games (sometimes with my kids), and on a rare free day I'll take a long bike ride on the Katy Trail.

Scouting is where I feel I can make the biggest difference. I'm an adult leader with Scouting America, active in both my son's and daughter's troops, and I chair the Membership Committee for Greater St. Louis Scouting's Boone Trails District. Between camping, hiking, canoeing, and time around the campfire, Scouting gives young people adventure, mentorship, leadership skills, and a sense of belonging, and watching them grow into capable, confident adults is one of the most rewarding parts of my life. I also support the Alzheimer's Association through the Walk to End Alzheimer's, a cause personal to my family, and the Mid-America Veterans Museum for its work preserving and sharing veterans' stories.
